About the Apprenticeship
The Transnet Boilermaker Apprenticeship Programme is designed to train and develop future artisans. Apprentices will gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience to become qualified boilermakers.
You’ll learn how to:
- Plan and prepare work sites, materials, and tools
- Manufacture, assemble, and inspect metal components
- Maintain and repair mechanical systems and structures
- Apply safety, problem-solving, and technical principles
This apprenticeship offers a structured pathway to employment, empowering participants to work independently and confidently in the industrial and manufacturing sectors.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
To apply, you must have one of the following:
N2 Qualification—with Mathematics, Engineering Science, Plating & Structural Drawing, and Metal Worker’s Theory
N3–N6 Qualification—with subjects such as Mathematics, Engineering Science, Mechanotechnology, or Engineering Drawing
NCV Level 4 Qualification—including English, Mathematics, Life Orientation, and Engineering vocational subjects
Technical Grade 12 – with Mathematics, Physical Science, and Mechanical Technology
Additional Requirements
- Must be a South African citizen 🇿🇦, ages 18–35 years
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
- No criminal record
